What Martial arts is Really about

“My family relies on two main sources for food: our garden and SNAP benefits. Last November it seemed especially cruel that SNAP benefits were cut at the same time winter frost killed off the last of our tomatoes.”

The face of hunger doesn’t fit into a stereotype.  That’s what the kids in our Ninja Kids Club are learning this month.  Each month, we hold a service project that runs like a class, structures along a theme and weaving the lesson in through games, circle sharing, and active work.

The only difference is that our “work” doesn’t look like regular martial arts training.  This month, our theme is “Take Another Look”.  It’s about bringing the value of Awareness to our understanding of hunger in our region, and what we can do about it.  And our “work” will be packing food at Manna FoodBank.  Check out this post and video of a project that helped show the dynamic and diverse experiences of people who face hunger.

We’re gearing up for our service project next weekend.  Big thanks to Manna for offering a wonderful way for groups of kids to come together and serve the community!
