Sure, many plants can get by in less than optimal conditions, but what does it take for them to THRIVE? That is the question of the dedicated gardener.
I think people are like plants in this way. It certainly can be possible to “bloom where you are planted”. And sometimes it’s just the right time to get by within the environment we’ve landed in. Lord knows, when you’re young and you don’t know any better, you can land in some interesting environments. But piece by piece, as our sense of self efficacy and deep love for the core of who we are grows, we stop wanting to merely tolerate our conditions.
We start to ask: what do I really need to thrive? And thus we begin to be the cultivators, the devoted gardeners of our own soul journey.
In the spring season, I invite this question: what people, activities, places and feelings really get your blossoms to unfurl?
Maybe this is just a season for noticing. For dreaming of what next year might bring. Or maybe it’s a season for a little bold action, adding some fertilizer, weeding, or taking a step, even a bound, in the direction of more fertile ground for your truest self.
