Training as a family can be a wonderful experience. It’s bonding and can help build awareness and understanding between family members. Not to mention that each person in the family can be a role model for the others in some way. Adults can inspire kids to better focus and perseverance in class. And kids can inspire adults to be more flexible and light on their feet!
In ancient Japan, every member of a family trained in the martial art of that clan, from a very young age. Now this did not look like: all ages of the family standing in lines doing warm ups and learning movement sequences. Everyone learns differently, and so the training has always been divided by age group and role in the family. For example, at Kasumi Mountain, our kids learn through adventures, games, age-appropriate safety scenarios, and facilitated sharing about how the lessons of martial arts relate to their lives. Our adults classes dive into real-life self protection and wellness, to explore the tools for success in all aspects of our lives.
Though individualized programs are vital, when family members come together to share in their training on a regular basis, all ages benefit. That’s why we have lots of ways for parents and kids to train together! Here’s what we do:
1) “Bring Your Grown Up to Ninja Class” weeks. All parents (of all levels of experience!) are welcome to join us in our classes this week. Next one: March 24th – 28th!
2) Special Mission and Home Practice Videos. Each week, we send out videos with a home practice for all of our students. While each group gets their own video, we link up the themes. So, parents and kids can do this weekly practice together at home.
3) Family Seminars! Our first Family Seminar will be Saturday, May 17th. Come move, play and connect as a family. Learn our 3 principles for Family Team Safety. Plus, create your own Family Fitness Workout and get a video of it to follow along with at home! As they say, “The Family that Trains Together, Stays Together”. Sign Up soon at AshevilleNinjas.com
These are the ways that we get families moving together. We’d love to hear what your family does already to get active together!
